Rodrigo Martins, professor at the Department of Materials Science at NOVA FCT, has been appointed as a member of the Expert Advisory Board of the European University for Customised Education (EUNICE).
The coordinator of i3N - Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodelling and Nanofabrication and CEMOP/UNINOVA at NOVA FCT will join the EUNICE Board from April 1, 2025, to October 31, 2027. EUNICE is a transnational alliance established in 2020, currently composed of 10 European public universities.
The EUNICE Advisory Board is responsible for providing strategic advice, guidance, and input on policy and strategic matters related to the functioning, governance, and future direction of EUNICE. The Board supports the EUNICE Alliance in identifying current and emerging issues, challenges, and opportunities in the European and global higher education, research, and innovation landscape that may impact the achievement of the Alliance’s strategic objectives.
This European institution also aims to ensure that research and innovation efforts contribute to addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by our regional ecosystems.
Rodrigo Martins has been a member of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering since 2009 and has served as President of the European Academy of Sciences since 2018. He was awarded the gold medal for merit by the Almada City Council for his achievements in Research & Development. The Full Professor at NOVA FCT has published over 700 articles and, in the past 10 years, has received more than 14 national and international awards and recognitions for his work, including the Lisbon Energy Live Expo Innovation Award (2012, solar tiles), the European Patent Office Innovation nomination (2016, paper electronics), and the Exame Informática Innovation Award (2016, paper-based solar cells).
