NOVA University of Lisbon is one of the most recent partners of the adapt.local Association - Network of Municipalities for Local Adaptation to Climate Change, which aims to enhance local response to climate change in Portugal.
Formalized as an Association in 2022, since 2016 this network has been working to boost adaptation to climate change. NOVA has been a collaborator of this initiative since the beginning and, in 2023, it formalized its commitment in the precursion of a country more prepared to respond to the climatic challenges ahead and officially integrating the Association. This membership was unanimously approved in the fourth General Assembly of the Association, which took place in April.
NOVA, through its several Organic Units, has been working in research and support to public policies at local and national scale (e.g. Intermunicipal Adaptation Plans), and in advanced university training at master level (e.g. the subject Adaptation and Risk to Climate Change of the Master in Environmental Engineering) in the scope of mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
Representing the School at adapt.local are João Pedro Gouveia, researcher at CENSE, Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering of NOVA School of Science and Technology, and Miguel Castro Neto, professor at NOVA Information Management School.
