During the months of February and March, more than 450 high school students had the opportunity to know the Campus NEW FCT and experience, for one day, practical lessons in engineering and science.
In addition to visiting classes and in research laboratories, students performed various activities and experiences framed in the Departments of the Faculty.
The Department of Chemistry proved how biological catalysts can be applied in a biotechnical process laboratory session, demonstrating the concepts of enzyme kinetics.
At the Department of Mathematics students become acquainted with applications of mathematics to epidemiology, using recurrence sequences defined in compartmental models of type SIR (Susceptible-Infectious-Recovered) and also with applications to cryptography, including decryption of messages by studying the relative frequency characters.
Students how visited the Department of Environment, took a sample from the Faculty pool Charco (phytoplankton, periphyton and macroinvertebrates) and analyzed the environmental quality indexes.
The visits to the Department of Physics included lectures by Professors of the Department, as well as laboratory work-related subjects taught in their schools, particularly Newtonian mechanics, thermodynamics and electromagnetism.
These are some of the activities that enable students greater proximity to higher education, enjoying a day at the FCT NOVA Campus.
