Proteomics is a journal published by Wiley-VCH with an impact factor of 4.131 and is a reference in all aspects of applications and technologies in proteomics. This special issue discusses the latest trends in the field of proteomics, namely the use of tissues and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues for the diagnosis of disease using Imaging Mass Spectrometry. For more than 20 years that biopsies are stored in bio-banks in hospitals around the world. These are a source of countless scientific value for keeping the information on the proteome of diseases such as cancer. Most biopsies are preserved in formalin and embedded in paraffin, thus hampering the extraction and the identification of proteins. This special issue coordinated by Dr. Santos, Lodeiro and Capelo deals with the latest techniques globally developed by the best research groups in this area in order to overcome the difficulties already mentioned as well as others related to the use of tissues. Among these techniques, the new technique of Imaging Mass Spectrometry Imaging is highlighted, because it will change in the coming years the methods of freeze- diagnosis in clinical pathology. This special issue also includes the noteworthy contribution of the father of the technique, Dr. Caprioli (USA).
