The winners of the first edition of the Open Data Academy Challenge, promoted by E-REDES, were announced on March 31. This award recognizes the best academic projects that use data from the E-REDES Open Data Portal to develop innovative solutions for the energy transition.
Miguel Cardinha, a Master’s student in Electrical Engineering at NOVA FCT, won 2nd place with his dissertation "Analysis of the Impact of Electric Vehicle Charging on Lisbon’s Power Distribution Network", supervised by Professors Rui Amaral Lopes and Nuno Amaro from the Department of Electrical Engineering at NOVA FCT.
The study used data from multiple sources, including the E-REDES Open Data platform, and applied genetic algorithms to model and implement an innovative methodology. This approach enabled the mapping of electric vehicle consumption by postal code and an analysis of its impact on each substation of the network.
This distinction further highlights NOVA FCT’s excellence in research and education, emphasizing the crucial role of its faculty in developing cutting-edge technological solutions and preparing students for the challenges of the future.
