Hugo Gamboa, a professor in NOVA FCT's Physics Department and a researcher at LIBPhys (NOVA FCT's Instrumentation, Biomedical Engineering and Radiation Physics Laboratory), is leading the ASTROPOWER project, which has received funding from the Portuguese Space Agency under the PROSSE 2024 (PROdex for Science in Space Exploration) competition.
The NOVA FCT project aims to develop new technologies to mitigate the loss of muscle power in astronauts through Acoustic Biofeedback techniques for myotatic tension. This new methodology can in turn also be applied to combat age-related muscle loss.
PROSSE aims to fund scientific projects in the area of space exploration in Portugal, supporting national participation in the European Space Agency's (ESA) PRODEX programme. Of the 14 applications, only two received approval.
