Rita Pires, a PhD student in Food Sciences at NOVA FCT and a member of the research unit Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde (LAQV-REQUIMTE), has won the Best Poster Presentation Award at the ISAP 2024 International Conference - the 8th Congress of the International Society for Applied Phycology.
Her award-winning poster, titled "Beyond Basic Nutrition: Elevating Heterotrophic Chlorella's Value with Iron, Zinc, and Selenium," explores the supplementation of Chlorella with these three minerals. The research focuses on the interaction of these minerals when added together, the growth of Chlorella under these conditions, the mineral content in the biomass, and a comparison with recommended daily intakes for both animal and human nutrition.
The congress was held from 16 to 21 June 2024 in Porto, under the theme "Algae 2030: Challenges and Opportunities".
