AnTUNia, NOVA FCT's male musical group, ECOZOIC (the Youth Association for the Environment and Human Rights), and Catarina Cidade do Carmo, a PhD student in Nanotechnologies and Nanosciences at NOVA FCT, were awarded at the Young Talents 2023 Competition, an initiative promoted by the Almada City Council.
During the Youth Gala held on December 16, anTUNia received the "Almada Cidade Educadora Award". ECOZOIC, for its environmental and humanitarian volunteering, earned the "Almada Sustainability and Innovation Award". Catarina Cidade do Carmo won the "Almada Sports 2023 Award".
AnTUNia, active for three decades and having won more than 250 awards over the years, has reached 39 cities in 11 European countries and Latin America, with a presence in countries such as Brazil and Peru. During the ceremony, the young artists expressed gratitude to the Almada community, highlighting the municipality's constant support for the boys' tuna activities.
The "Almada Cidade Educadora Prize," worth 1,500 euros, was awarded to anTUNia in recognition of its activities actively promoting and disseminating Almada as an Educating City. This award underscores anTUNia's track record in promoting knowledge and culture, as well as its commitment to active citizenship and democratic participation in the community.
Ecozoic, founded in 2010 by NOVA FCT university students predominantly linked to environmental engineering degree, was awarded the "Almada Sustainability and Innovation Prize," worth 500 euros. This association stands out for its environmental and humanitarian volunteering, encouraging young people to play an active role in solving society's problems. The award recognizes Ecozoic's commitment to promoting broader environmental awareness based on the balance between the economy, environment, and society, with the aim of implementing sustainable projects.
Catarina Cidade do Carmo, in addition to being a student at NOVA FCT, has built a remarkable sporting career. Currently an athlete at the Clube Pedro Pessoa Athletics School, she holds the titles of National Under-23 Champion in the 2000m hurdles (2020), National University Champion in the 3000m hurdles (2021), and National University Vice-Champion in the 5000m (2023). She also holds the Setúbal regional records for 3000m, 3000m hurdles, and 5000m. Catarina Cidade do Carmo emphasizes her resilient spirit and unwavering determination, which have been fundamental to her strategic decisions, the balance between academic and sporting life, and constant evolution. This recognition, materialized in a prize of €500.00, honors the sporting success and the resilience and determination shown by the student-athlete throughout her career.
The Young Talents Competition, designed to inspire, acknowledge, and distinguish individuals aged 12 to 35 contributing to the local development of Almada, received 49 applications and engaged a total of 75 talented and entrepreneurial young minds. The 11th edition underscored the steadfast commitment of the local community to appreciate and recognize the endeavors of young individuals dedicated to advancing the principles of Educating Cities.
