07-01-2022

The NOVA School of Science and Technology organizes the Portuguese edition of the World Logic Day 2022 on the 15th of January.

The celebration will be the launching initiative of the Portuguese Society of Logic, which will be made official the day before, and will pay homage to the ephemeris of the birth Alfred Tarski and the death of Kurt Gödel.

The event is part of a worldwide celebration and will feature an eclectic selection of national and international speakers: Albert Visser (Universiteit Utrecht), Anton Freund (TU Darmstadt), Cristina Sernadas (Instituto Superior Técnico), Isabel Oitavem (FCT NOVA), José Espírito Santo (University of Minho), Pedro Quaresma (University of Coimbra), and Wilfried Sieg (Carnegie Mellon University).

The World Logic Day aims at fostering international cooperation, promoting the development of logic, in both research and teaching, supporting the activities of associations, universities and other institutions involved with logic, and enhancing public understanding of logic and its implications for science, technology and innovation. Furthermore, the celebration of World Logic Day can also contribute to the promotion of a culture of peace, dialogue and mutual understanding, based on the advancement of education and science.

Reinhard Kahle, professor in the Department of Mathematics and researcher at NOVA MATH, and Paulo Guilherme Santos, PhD student in the same department, are in charge of the national event, with the support of the Sociedade Portuguesa de Lógica, NOVA School of Science and Technology, Instituto Superior Técnico and the Faculty of Sciences of Lisbon.
