26-11-2021

The NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA) collected 9.5 tonnes of electrical and electronic waste, guaranteeing the best classification ever by a Higher Education Institution in the 13th edition of the Depositrão Generation Contest.

In 2020/21, FCT NOVA renewed its enrollment in the Depositrão Generation Contest, accessible through its involvement in the Eco-Schools Program, and won prizes in categories with its participation, distinguishing the efforts and ongoing recycling strategy of the School .

The substantial results of the School in this challenge, 4th place overall, made it to reach the first Higher Education Institution with the Top 5 of this competition.

This edition had the participation of 540 schools and Portuguese entities, which resulted in the collection of 430 tonnes of electrical and electronic waste and used batteries, representing an increase of around 8% compared to the previous school year.

This classification is due to the effort and participation of all FCT NOVA teachers, employees and students who delivered their Electrical and Electronic Equipment, Batteries and Accumulators Waste in the containers available for this purpose on Caparica Campus.

The School's partaking in this challenge is yet another initiative promoted within the scope of Sustainable FCT NOVA . The School assumes sustainability as one of its commitments and has been implementing measures to encourage and inspire the community to be more aware and participative.

The Depositrão Generation is a campaign led by the European Recycling Platform Portugal, implemented in partnership with ABAE (Blue Flag Association of Europe), through the Eco-Schools Program, and has the support of Decathlon, LG, Orima, Pingo Doce and Worten brands .

FCT NOVA is already actively participating in the new edition of the competition, which has the novelty of any member of the School being able to make a request for collection of electrical and electronic equipment at home, in association with FCT NOVA, counting this weight for the prizes collected by the school throughout the year. Home collections (minimum weight of 60 kg) must have the identification of the school to add the corresponding weight. For this purpose, simply access www.eureciclo.pt, fill in and submit the schools form and wait for the collection date, which will be communicated by our Operations.
