The NOVA School of Science and Technology will promote on November 19, starting at 3 pm, a series of conversations and debates around Scientific Diplomacy. The event is part of the celebration of the tenth anniversary of American Corners Portugal (ACP) , a diplomatic initiative of the US Department of State in partnership with Portuguese academic institutions.
With a panel of speakers made up of key Portuguese and North American personalities, the debate, which will take place in the Grand Auditorium of the Caparica Campus, aims to identify common problems, decipher potential solutions and establish partnerships, without forgetting the ongoing support for the American Corners program in Portugal.
The meeting, organized by the NOVA School of Science and Technology Library, which is part of the American Corners Portugal network, will feature a lecture by Daniel Roos, former NASA administrator, former director of the MIT Portugal program at MIT and currently Professor Emeritus of Engineering and Systems Civil and Environmental Engineering of the Japanese Steel Industry.
The program also includes a round table, moderated by Manuel Nunes da Ponte, professor a NOVA School of Science and Technology, with the participation of Daniel Roos, Eurico Brilhante Dias, Secretary of State for Internationalization, José Paulo Esperança, Vice President of the Foundation for Science and Technology, Virgílio Cruz Machado, Dean of NOVA School of Science and Technology, Alexandre Quintanilha, professor and scientist at the University of Porto, and member of the Portuguese Parliment, and Andy Sisk, Penny Rechkemmer and Giscard Guilloteau, representatives of the Embassy of the United States of America.
American Corners Portugal is a program administered by the US Department of State through the Embassy of Lisbon, which aims to promote North American diplomacy and culture, as well as the provision of technical-scientific information, among higher education institutions. Founded in 2011, American Corners Portugal is a partnership made possible by the libraries of several higher education institutions: NOVA School of Science and Technology, University of Aveiro, FLUL - the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Arts and Humanities of University of Porto and University of the Azores.
