NOVA School of Science and Technology and TERINOV sign cooperation agreement to foster innovation in the Azores

NOVA School of Science and Technology (NOVA FCT) and TERINOV – Science and Technology Park of Terceira Island have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at fostering research, development, and innovation (R&D&I) in the Autonomous Region of the Azores. The signing ceremony took place at TERINOV’s multipurpose space.

The agreement provides for the creation and promotion of scientific and technological research projects, focusing on enhancing and modernizing the regional business ecosystem, as well as on joint actions to build local capacity and promote science and technology in society. The partnership between the two institutions aims to strengthen the link between academia and the business sector, accelerating knowledge dissemination and technology transfer. Strategic areas of action include environment and climate action, digital transition, biotechnology, urban mobility, Industry 4.0, innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities, as well as information and communication technologies.

This three-year collaboration establishes concrete mechanisms for joint participation in projects and initiatives involving the scientific and business communities in the region. Key objectives include securing European funding and attracting external investment, fostering scientific and technological entrepreneurship, and creating opportunities for high-quality academic and professional internships. The agreement will also facilitate the integration of NOVA FCT master’s dissertations and doctoral theses into regional challenges and opportunities.

Currently, TERINOV is an innovation hub supporting over 80 companies and 7 scientific entities, representing approximately 300 jobs. The Park operates under a collaborative innovation model, promoting entrepreneurship and interaction between the scientific and business communities, with a direct impact on job qualification and the development of high-value-added products and services.
