Open Access Week 2021

25-10-2021

The NOVA School of Science and Technology is once again associated with the celebrations of the International Open Access Week, which this year takes place between 25 and 30 October.

“It Matters How Open Knowledge: Building Structural Equity” is this year's theme, which aligns with the recent UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science, in which Open Access is a crucial element.

"Open Science should play a significant role in ensuring equity among researchers from developed and developing countries, enabling fair and reciprocal sharing of scientific inputs and outputs and equal access to scientific knowledge to both producers and consumers of knowledge regardless of location, nationality, race, age, gender, income, socio-economic circumstances, career stage, discipline, language, religion, disability, ethnicity or migratory status or any other grounds" (UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science, Page 7).

This initiative, promoted by SPARC (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition), aims to fight for availability on the internet of free copies of peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, conference communications, technical reports, theses and working documents, making the results more accessible for the entire scientific community.
