The "Anthropocene Campus Lisboa: Parallax" is an event organized by the Centro Interuniversitário de História das Ciências e da Tecnologia (CIUHCT) under the "Anthropolands" project, which aims to contribute to the international debate on the subject of the Anthropocene.
This initiative is part of the Anthropocene Curriculum, started by the Haus der Kulturen der Welt and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, which aimed to explore a new interdisciplinary culture of knowledge and learning. This curriculum spawned two Anthropocene Campuses in Berlin (2014, 2016) and various satellite events around the world.
The event, which opened on January 6, features 6 seminars, an exhibition by New York artist Aidan Koch and two public conferences. Guest speakers include the renowned Indian historian Dipesh Chakrabarty, author of the article "The Climate of History: Four Theses", the first in a series of anthropocene-related articles, which sparked an extensive discussion of who is the Anthropos in the Anthropocene - and how the socio-economic and political divide between the global North and South factors into the interlocking threats endangering humans and non-humans on Earth.
The "Anthropocene Campus Lisboa: Parallax" will take place at Culturgest from 6th to 11th January 2020.
