17-05-2019

The 2nd edition of  "Engenheiras por um dia" ("Women Engineers for a Day") ended with science demonstrations and  engineering activities at the Casal Vistoso Pavilion, in Lisbon, on May 16.

FCT NOVA was present with five activities that allowed the students to prepare eutectic solvents, to experiment supercritical CO2 technology, to make a computer structure analysis, to make contact with nanoporous materials and to be introduced to Biovisualspeech, an interactive platform for children's speech therapy.

The "Engenheiras por um dia" project is an initiative of the Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality, Rosa Monteiro. The central objective is to promote the areas of engineering and technology for young women attending the 3rd cycle of basic and secondary education, to prevent the segregation of the professions on the basis of sex and, in particular, to combat the low participation of girls and women in these areas of study and work.

FCT NOVA was one of the partners of this initiative, having promoted meetings between students with women engineers and successful scientists, among other activities. FCT NOVA has always been proud to work for the dissemination of the areas of science and engineering and to be active in the fight against discrimination. The School has been organizing and partnering with initiatives that help demystify and even attract young people to these areas, such as Technovation, EXPO FCT, FCT NOVA CHALLENGE, the European Researchers' Night and Ciência Viva.

This edition of the "Engenheiras por um dia" reached 3000 students from all over the country.
