Carla Gonçalves and Pedro Almeida, PhD students of the Yeast Genomics Lab, are the first authors of a study coordinated by Paula Gonçalves e José Paulo Sampaio that involved the genome sequencing of more than 60 strains of Saccharomyces uvarum, a yeast used for the production of wine and cider.
The study was published in Nature Communications and involved researchers from Argentina, the US and France. It describes genomic alterations related with yeast domestication. It is expected that the understanding of such alterations will enable the industrial improvment of yeasts.
