The prize is annually awarded by the Portuguese Geotechnical Society (SPG). The contest consists of a paper submitted to the effect, assessed by a jury, and, in the case of finalists by an oral presentation of the candidate's work. The winning work is titled "Reliability Analysis of Tunnel Convergence: Is it Worth the Effort?".
The award ceremony took place on April 9, at the Closing Session of the 14th National Congress of Geotechnics, held at the University of Beira Interior in Covilha.
