Knowledge is the foundation of social and human development, and as such, the ability to circulate information across generations is crucial, promoting knowledge and skills while also reinforcing values and attitudes of critical awareness and active citizenship.

Education is therefore strategic and at the forefront of the development of advanced, fair, and prosperous societies. In this context, it is necessary and urgent to update and strengthen the capacity of our educators in order to better envisage the school and education in a global and multidisciplinary manner, capable of facing the ever-increasing contemporary challenges and promoting a positive and lasting impact on society.

The Master's in Education aims to promote an academic training that enables the personal and professional development of teachers and other professionals in the field of education, within a lifelong learning framework, providing the enrichment of professional practices and the improvement of the organisations in which they work.

Why this Master's?

  • It addresses training needs and motivations in various areas of specialisation, reflecting on theoretical knowledge related to teaching and learning;
  • It complements the scientific knowledge taught by teachers, questioning teaching practices and forms of school and educational organisation, while also promoting the training of reflective professionals;
  • It deepens skills in areas such as learning, interdisciplinarity, curriculum development, research methodologies, digital technologies, sciences, education, and the connection with non-school learning;
  • Candidates holding a pre-Bologna bachelor's degree or a second cycle degree, from a course that qualifies them to practise as an educator or teacher at different levels of education, may request accreditation for the curricular units of the respective courses;
  • Students benefit from a high-quality, humanised, and technologically enriched university environment, providing the acquisition of significant skills, specific to each area of specialisation.

Program

The Master's programme leverages the diversity of knowledge areas present at NOVA FCT, with concrete collaborations with other departments of the school, thus exposing students to advanced scientific and technological knowledge in relation to Educational Sciences. The Master's programme is structured into six areas of specialisation.
