Program

The Master's Degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering is guided by a student-centered teaching methodology, with a strong practical and teamwork component, fostering autonomous work in complementarity with in-person teaching.

In addition to the specific subjects, students are encouraged to build a transversal profile by developing their critical thinking, flexibility of reasoning and self-learning capacity. We continue to foster student-teacher proximity, widely recognized by NOVA FCT's Chemical and Biological Engineering students, and mentoring programs with young researchers.

Curriculum

For whom

  • Graduates in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biological Engineering or related scientific areas (degree in Biomedical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Environmental Engineering, among others);
  • Graduates in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related sciences are also accepted
  • Professionals who wish to deepen their training in Chemical and Biological Engineering sciences oriented towards research, innovation and the challenges of sustainable technologies.

Career opportunities

  • Energy: petrochemical refining, biorefining and biofuels, development and production of efficient solar panels, batteries and fuel cells for automobiles, hydrogen industry, among others;
  • Materials: sustainable polymers and biopolymers, biodegradable plastics and bioplastics, cement industry, paints, glues and varnishes, thermal and acoustic insulating materials, among others;
  • Health: Pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry, focusing on the large-scale production of pharmaceuticals (synthetic chemical-based active ingredients) and biopharmaceuticals (bio-based active ingredient, for example vaccines);
  • Environment: drinking water collection and treatment; treatment and recovery of wastewater, CO2 sequestration to mitigate global warming or elimination of pollution sources, are just a few examples.

Risk and Safety Director, TAP

"NOVA FCT offers a great curricular diversity, offering students other skills in addition to the course's own valences. In the job market this factor is preponderant, companies currently value soft skills more than hard skills. There is a high harmony and cooperation in the relationship between the faculty and the students, on a Campus where nature and green spaces complement this harmony and well-being. NOVA FCT is one of the most important universities in the country with high international exposure and recognition".
