Ivo Yves Vieira, a former student and current member of the Faculty Board at NOVA FCT, is leading the PoSat 2 project, the first of 12 satellites to be launched into space with the aim of mapping the oceans.
With a degree in Physics from NOVA FCT, Ivo Vieira is currently the CEO of LUSOSPACE, the company responsible for launching Portugal's first commercial satellite.
Launched on 14 January this year, PoSat 2 uses a new encrypted communication protocol, with applications including ocean mapping, secure communication between vessels, and climate data collection.
Each satellite has a production and launch cost of 1.1 million euros. The project is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
