NOVA FCT marks National Day for Scientific Culture with debate on Artificial Intelligence and the fight against disinformation and false science

NOVA FCT is joining in the celebrations of National Culture Day. The event, which since 1996 has celebrated the promoter of science education Rómulo de Carvalho, better known as António Gedeão, aims to emphasise the importance of disseminating science for social development.

With this mission in mind, the School is promoting a debate on "How artificial intelligence can combat false science and disinformation".

The event will feature presentations by Manuela Veloso, Director of AI Research at JPMorganChase and Herbert A. Simon Professor Emeritus in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University; Carlos Fiolhais, Professor of Physics and founder of the Computational Centre at the University of Coimbra; and João Leite, Chair of the Department of Computer Science at NOVA FCT and an expert in Artificial Intelligence. The event will be hosted by José Paulo Santos, NOVA FCT's Vice-Dean for the Scientific Council, and moderated by José Moura, NOVA FCT's Commissioner for Cultural Activities on Campus.
