Academic work in physics awarded at international conferences

15-10-2024

Pedro Guerra, student on the Master's programme in Engineering Physics at NOVA FCT, and Filipe Ferreira da Silva, professor in the Physics Department and leader of the e-FdS group at Cefitec at NOVA FCT, were awarded the best poster at international conferences.

‘Dissociative electron attachment to 2-chlorobenzonitril’ and “Electron-induced chemistry in EUVL photoresist materials: study on perfluorophenyl trifluoromethanesulfonate” were the papers honoured.

The first study presented results on the interaction of low-energy electrons with o- and p-chlorobenzonitrile at the DEA ClubMeeting conference in Potsdam, Germany. The study of electron-induced reactions with the formation of negative and positive ions has astrochemical relevance since benzonitrile is a potential precursor of the CN anion in the interstellar medium. These results are part of Pedro Guerra's integrated master's thesis in physical engineering.

Additionally, at the LE2AP+LEELIS conference, held at iMec in Leuven, Belgium, a study of electron interactions with EUVL photoresistor molecules was presented. These reactions are extremely important in nanotechnology processes for the production of nanochips. Both papers were recognised as best poster presentations.
