Researcher from NOVA FCT Wins Best Poster at Portuguese Chemical Society Conferences

22-07-2024

Patrícia Gomes, graduated in Applied Chemistry, Master in Bioorganic Chemistry, and researcher at the Associate Laboratory for Green Chemistry (LAQV-REQUIMTE), won the Best Poster Award at the 16th National Chemistry Meeting and the 5th Computational Chemistry Symposium (July 17-19, FCUL, Lisbon).

The award-winning poster, titled “Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production Using Activated Carbon from Tires", addresses green hydrogen production through photocatalysis. The innovation of this work lies in using activated carbons, produced from the rubber of used tires, as catalysts for green hydrogen production.

The study aims to convert waste (end-of-life tire rubber) into a high-value added material (catalyst) to increase hydrogen production through photocatalysis, within the scope of the Circular Economy applied to used tires.

This work is developed within the RObUST project, funded by Valorpneu – Sociedade de Gestão de Pneus, Lda., under the supervision of Dr. Sandra Gago and Professor João Carlos Lima and co-supervision of Dr. Inês Matos and Professor Nuno Lapa.
