Carmona Rodrigues, professor at the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering of FCT NOVA and researcher at MARE, was recently appointed President of the Advisory Board of the Regulatory Authority of Water and Waste Services (ERSAR), by Order of 26 May, of the Minister of Environment and Climate Action.
ERSAR is the regulator of public water supply, urban wastewater sanitation and urban waste management services in Portugal.
"The appointment to this position is a great honour and responsibility for me, since the Advisory Board is the consultation body in the definition of ERSAR's general lines of action, ensuring the participation of representatives of the core interests involved in the activities of the regulated sectors of water and waste services. Furthermore, the Advisory Board is responsible for, among other things, contributing to the formulation of public policies in the sector and issuing an opinion on the proposal of tariff regulations and their revisions," says Carmona Rodrigues.
For over 40 years, the Professor has been involved in several significant projects in Portugal and some abroad, particularly in the areas of water resources, hydraulics and environment. He is currently a member of the Order of Engineers, of the Academy of Engineering, and of the National Water Council. He is former Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing, former Mayor of Lisbon, former President of the Portuguese Water Resources Association and former national rugby champion.
