On April 18, the NOVA School of Science and Technology | FCT NOVA signed a collaboration protocol with the Platform for the Promotion of Low Carbon Fuels (PCBC). FCT NOVA reinforces its policy of connecting with the Portuguese business universe and making its know-how available to the decarbonization challenges faced by national organizations, in the context of European and national targets for reducing GHG emissions and combating climate change.
PCBC integrates organizations that operate at different points in the fuel value chain, from raw material sourcing to its use in transportation, through its processing and distribution. Representing various sub-sectors of mobility, including land, air, and sea transportation, PCBC aims for the decarbonization of the vast transportation sector through the promotion of renewable low-carbon fuels and reduced carbon footprint.
PCBC will be a strategic partner for FCT NOVA by enhancing the university's connection to the transportation sector, promoting new research challenges in the area of renewable biofuels, and enabling the connection between students and companies in this important sector.
Also, by the teaching and R&D activities FCT NOVA develops in the areas of sustainable biofuels, bioenergy, renewable energies, and chemical engineering, will be an important partner for PCBC in the development of studies and projects related to renewable low-carbon fuels, as well as in its promotion among the university community.
The contact point at FCT NOVA is Nuno Lapa, Professor of the Department of Chemistry (ncsn@fct.unl.pt).
