27-02-2023

Paulo Guilherme Santos, researcher at NOVA Math and PhD student in Mathematics at NOVA School of Science and Technology, has been selected as a member of the European Mathematical Society Young Academy.

This society, created by the European Mathematical Society (EMS), aims to strengthen the integration of young European mathematicians in this body.

Besides this researcher, there are several members of NOVA Math that collaborate with EMS, due to the international recognition of the work they have been developing in the scientific community, but also, for many of them, in the civil society. João Araújo is a member of the Education Committee, Fabio Chalub is a member of the Applications and Interdisciplinary Relations Committee and Rogério Martins and Fátima Rodrigues are part of the Committee for Raising Public Awareness in Mathmatics.

EMS promotes the development of all aspects of mathematics in Europe, in particular research in mathematics, the relations of mathematics with society, the relations with European institutions and mathematics education. About 60 national mathematical societies in Europe, 50 research centres and departments of mathematics and 3,000 individuals are among the members of this socienty. In the global context, only 11 researchers from portuguese institutions are members of EMS bodies.
