NOVA LINCS co-organises major international multimedia event

10-10-2022

ACM Multimedia is the leading international event on multimedia, where the most relevant scientific achievements and innovative industrial products in the multimedia field are displayed. Created in 1993, the event happens this year for the first time in Portugal, co-organized by NOVA LINCS, until this Friday, October 14th, at the Centro de Congressos de Lisboa and Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon.

In this 30th edition of ACM Multimedia, in a hybrid model, after the last online editions, thousands of researchers will bring to the event works in multimedia that cross image, video, text, music or voice. The multidisciplinary knowledge of these researchers allows to explore areas such as Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, education, health, or even entertainment.

In addition to the presentations of the main researches, ACM Multimedia 2022 involves more than 50 events with 1200 participants, including panels, tutorials, demonstrations, exhibitions, computational challenges, an open source software competition, and workshops, among which, tools to detect deepfake, or how to use multimedia for recommendations in the fashion industry. Also featured at the event is an interactive art exhibition that demonstrates the potential of combining art and multimedia.

The event's keynote speakers are three leading figures from the multimedia field, starting with Israeli researcher Yoelle Maarek, former President of Research at Yahoo and Google's first engineer in Israel, responsible for opening the engineering centre in Haifa. Today, Yoelle Maarek is Vice President at Amazon and research leader of the Alexa Shopping team and will demonstrate at ACM Multimedia 2022 how Alexa's technology can help Amazon customers accomplish tasks with verbal and visual commands. Nuria Oliver, Scientific Director and co-founder of ELLIS Alicante Foundation, determines how data science fought the COVID-19 pandemic; and Douwe Kiela, Head of Research at Hugging Face, the data science platform that allows anyone to build multimedia models, will give an ingsight at machine learning.
