"Il Buco" film celebrates International Geodiversity Day | October 6th

06-10-2022

This October 6, the Geological Society of Portugal (SGP), in partnership with the film distributor RISI Film, premieres the film "Il BUCO" , by Italian director Michelangelo Frammartino, winner of the Special Prize at the Venice Film Festival 2021.

The movie is a tribute to the speleologists who, in the 60's of the last century, discovered and recognised a karst system called "l'Abisso del Bifurto" in the Cantabrian Mountains (Italy), a remarkable expression of Geodiversity, formed essentially by shafts and galleries up to a depth of (-)683m, the third deepest karst cavity discovered until then.

After the film screening there will be a round table/webinar allusive to the International Geodiversity Day, which will be moderated by José Carlos Kullberg, Professor of the Department of Earth Sciences of NOVA School of Science and Technology | FCT_NOVA, researcher at GeoBioTec and President of SGP Board of Directors.

SGP has 40 free tickets for the presentation of the film (in person). Interested parties -- up to four people per request -- should write to the email address webmaster@socgeol.pt, indicating the name(s) of the interested parties; the entrance to the screening room is done indicating the name(s).

More information, on Facebook of SGP. The session will be broadcasted in real time by streaming, through the Youtube channel of the Geological Society of Portugal. The connection, for online participants, will be established around 20h30.
