The Portuguese chapter of the book "Notes on the history of Civil Engineering - Volume III", edited by the European Council of Civil Engineers (ECCE), was coordinated by Fernando Pinho (Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering - DEC- of NOVA School of Science and Technology and Coordinator of the Regional Civil Engineering College of the Southern Region of OE), by Válter Lúcio (Professor at DEC FCT NOVA and expert in Structures by OE), and by João Appleton (Partner and Technical Director of A2P Consult, Estudos e Projectos, Lda and expert in Structures by OE).
The book is composed by contributions from five countries (Cyprus, Estonia, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Turkey). The Portuguese chapter, elaborated from the contributions compiled by the Ordem dos Engenheiros (ECCE Member), presents a set of projects, works and research works carried out in Portugal in the last three decades, consisting of 4 sections, of which are highlighted here:
- Rehabilitation of buildings in Portugal, in the last 30 years
- Buildings with masonry, reinforced concrete, steel and mixed material structures
- Bridges and special structures with reinforced concrete, steel and mixed material structures
- Scientific research in civil engineering carried out in Portugal
The presentation took place on 13 October 2022, at the National Headquarters of the Ordem dos Engenheiros (OE) in Lisbon, in the presence, among others, of the President of the OE, Fernando de Almeida Santos, the President of the ECCE (previous recording), Andreas Brandner, and Humberto Varum, President of the National College of Civil Engineering of the OE.
