The Portuguese Society of Materials (SPM) attributed on 13 April, the Prémio SPM Carreira e Reconhecimento (Career and Recognition Award) to Rodrigo Martins, Professor and Researcher of the Department of Materials Science (DCM) of the NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA).
Established in 2015, this distinction aims to recognise, encourage and promote excellence in teaching, development and research, innovation and industrial production in the field of Materials in Portugal.
“Rodrigo Martins is an exceptional and brilliant scientist whose reputation goes beyond Portuguese borders, being able to combine wisdom and experience with vision and imagination”, can be read on the SPM website.
Full Professor at FCT NOVA, he has published more than 700 articles and during the last 10 years has won over14 international and national awards and distinctions for his work. He is currently Member of the Scientific Council of the European Research Council, President of the International Union of Materials Research Societies, President of the European Academy of Sciences (EURASC), Past President of the European Society for Materials Research, Member of the EIT Strategic Committee , KIC Raw Materials.
The award, in addition to recognizing the impact that the professor and researcher had in his area, also distinguishes his influence in transforming the DCM into a center of excellence in teaching and research.
