On March 14th, celebrate the International Day of Mathematics with us

25-02-2022

The Department of Mathematics at NOVA School of Science and Technology, with the support of the Center for Mathematics and Applications at NOVA, will, once again, be associated with the celebrations of International Mathematics Day, with activities aimed at the school public and at the general public.

UNESCO proclaimed the 14th of March, in November 2019, as the International Day of Mathematics (IMD). In 2022, it will have its third official celebration under the theme “Mathematics Unites”.

The day will be celebrated with activities for the school public, aimed at classes or groups of students in the 3rd cycle and/or secondary education, which require prior registration until March 4th. This year's proposal focuses on a “mission” that will be carried out in the school itself in order to unite, under this pretext, the rest of the school community. Available activities include seeing the magic of math, decoding messages and many others.

In the morning, at 11:00 am, the general public will be able to participate in an online forum, which will take place through the Zoom platform, under the theme “Mathematics unites... the whole world”. In this meeting, experts and researchers will demonstrate how Mathematics is a universal language, which transcends not only geographical but also cultural and ideological boundaries. Participation in this session also requires pre-registration by March 4th.
