The new edition of the book “Mulheres na Ciência" (Women in Science) highlights once more researchers from the NOVA School of Science and Technology . This year the honorees are Elisabete Oliveira, Isabel Ferreira, Leonor Morgado, Luísa Alexandre Neves and Maria Paula Diogo.
Elisabete Oliveira, researcher at LAQV-REQUIMTE and professor at the Department of Chemistry, explains that she works with an “excellent team, which in research is fundamental, that allows to overcome all obstacles that may arise and contributes to the creation of new ideas and challenges. "
“I am concerned about waste in general and the lack of care for nature,” says Isabel Ferreira, professor in the Department of Materials Science, researcher at CENIMAT.
Leonor Morgado, researcher at UCIBIO, says that research “is like making a puzzle, with pieces that fit together and that reveal how biological systems work. The discovery and the teamwork are what I love about scientific research. ”
Luísa Neves, researcher at LAQV-REQUIMTE and professor at the Department of Chemistry, confesses that “the search for solutions to improve the quality of life for all of us has been my biggest motivation”.
“In my look at tools, machines, infrastructures or technical systems, I see mainly the men and women who thought and used them”, recognizes Maria Paula Diogo, professor in the Department of Applied Social Sciences and researcher at CIUHCT.
Published on the International Women's Day, the book aims to highlight the presence of successful women in all areas of knowledge and promote inspiration among young people to pursue careers in these fields. This Ciência Viva initiative has brought together the names of Portuguese women researchers since 2016.
