João Pereira da Silva, student of the Doctoral Program RaBBiT - Radiation Biology and Biophysics Doctoral Training Program, received a Fulbright Scholarship for Research, supported by FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology).
The scholarship given to João Pereira da Silva is intended to carry out a scientific mission at the Department of Physics, Radiation Laboratory, University of Notre Dame, IN, USA, under the supervision of Professor Sylwia Ptasinska.
The project entitled "X-ray induced damage in boronated molecules for pharmaceutical applications monitored by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy", aims to explore the basic molecular processes underlying the synergy between chemotherapy and radiotherapy. These studies complement his doctoral thesis centered on "Low energy electron driven reactions in boron containing molecules", taking place at the Laboratory of Atomic and Molecular Collisions of CEFITEC, Department of Physics, under the guidance of Professor Filipe Ferreira da Silva.
