André Dionísio Rocha, professor and researcher at the NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA), leader of the full suite project to protect health professionals, recently presented by #ProjectOpenAir.
This 100% Portuguese protective equipment, called “Front Line Medic Protection”, was developed by a team of volunteers that includes engineers, doctors, designers, and industry professionals. The project was developed in partnership with FCT NOVA (UNINOVA), the Latino Group, Science4you, Moldes Catarino, and Culto da Imagem.
André Dionísio Rocha explains that “the full suit works like armor against COVID-19 and can be reused, with numerous washes, as established by the certification assigned to it by CITEVE, which certifies that this fact supports 25 washes without losing properties”.
The total equipment includes the full body suit with neck, shoulders and hood protection, a cap, goggles, visor, apron, high elbow-length gloves, and boot covers. This kit can be adapted to the needs and protocols established in each hospital.
The production of 5,000 complete kits is underway and will be distributed from north to south of the country, allowing the protection of at least 125,000 shifts. This production is being supported by the #unidosporportugal campaign promoted by SIC Esperança and the Portuguese Football Federation.
FCT NOVA has been at the forefront of combating the pandemic, placing its knowledge at the service of society. Congratulations!
