The preparation and implementation of distance classes took just under a week. The prompt response, emerging from this extraordinary time that we are undergoing, is principally due to the experience and dedication of the NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA) professors and services.

In this process, the support of the FCT NOVA e-learning Laboratory — which since 2005 has promoted support for the educational use of the MOODLE online teaching and learning management system, complemented, more recently, by the use of Colibri Zoom for interactive online classes — succeeded in record time a device to accommodate more than 8,000 students and more than 400 teachers to proceed with online classes from their homes, due to the contingency plan of COVID-19.

For this purpose, a sophisticated local network infrastructure, managed by the Computing Division, was used, providing access to online educational content platforms and the Colibri videoconferencing and Videocast video broadcasting technologies under the responsibility of FCCN, the managing entity of the Portuguese university network.

In addition to online and distance classes, the Faculty also uses digital technologies to support the teleworking regime for all services, therefore maintaining its functioning in this exceptional period and ensuring the necessary support for both students and teachers.
