Tahereh Nodehi, Post-Doc Researcher at UNIDEMI (Research Center at FCT NOVA), will be speaking on "Can Blockchain Technology truly bring trust in Socio-Econopmic Systems?" at the prestigious "We are Developers" Conference in Berlin on 6 June at 2:15 PM.
The blockchain technology is a new paradigm that can provide efficient solutions for many old problems in public and private sectors such as: lack of security, excessive bureaucracy, lack of transparency, fraud, errors and expensive transaction fees. Its proposed applications include crowdfunding, asset tracking, property registrations, social funding, finance amongst others where it attempts to build trustless systems without any central authority.
While blockchain technology promises to build a strong technological foundation for trust and transparency in decentralized systems, there are limits to where technology alone can bring trust unless it is complemented by other factors such as transparent social systems, independent validators, and a society where honest and ethical behavior is part of the culture.
Through different case scenarios, this talk will present how blockchain technology brings about trust but, at the same time, its limitations will be identified, illustrating the other missing elements that are vital for building a true trust based socio-economic system.
