Innovation Itinerary 21 February at FCT NOVA

The Portuguese Government presented the Innovation Road Map on 15 February in Matosinhos. This initiative underscores the country's need to take innovation as the driving force behind its development with the aim of making the turn of the Portuguese economy sustainable and durable this year, said Prime Minister António Costa. In this strategy, the Government has set three very ambitious goals, centered on innovation: increasing the digital competences of Portuguese society, the intensity of investment in innovation and development, and the qualification of human resources.

FCT NOVA and NOVA LINCS integrated the Innovation Roadmap on the morning of February 21st, where the focus was on Artificial Intelligence. Following the welcome by Nova University Rector, Professor João Sàágua, and the Dean of FCT NOVA, Professor Fernando Santana, the President of the Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence (APPIA), Professor Paulo Novais, made his intervention. The launch of an incentive program for data science and artificial intelligence in public administration, which includes four pilot research projects on the risk of unemployment, antibiotic prescribing, food security and support for entrepreneurs, was carried out by the Minister of the Presidency and Modernization Administrative, Professor Mª Manuel Leitão Marques, and the session was closed with the intervention of the Prime Minister, Dr. António Costa.

In the Ágora Room were also presented companies that work in the area of Artificial Intelligence and Technological Innovation (Critical Software, Defined Crowd, Outsystems, Priberam and Siscog).
