In the last week of July, the Department of Electrical Engineering from FCT NOVA and the UNINOVA-CTS received a group of high school students motivated by the goal of
''Construction sailboats equipped with electronic systems for autonomous navigation’’, framed by the program Ciência Viva no Laboratório - Ocupação Científica de Jovens nas Férias.
Starting from a sailboat model an Arduino was used to control the boat integrating various electronic devices to support the navigation, in particular a compass, a GPS and weathervane navigation strategies and providing the capacity for autonomous navigation.
The week ended with a trip to the lake of the Peace Park, where the sailboat experienced adverse conditions, largely offset by the enthusiasm of the participants.
