Sofia Simões, researcher FCT NOVA, CENSE (Centre for Environmental and Sustainability Research) maps the energy poverty in Portugal. The study was part of the ClimAdaPT.local project concluding that 29 percent of the population has no capacity to heating homes in winter or to cool them in summer.
Bragança is the county with more energy poverty and Braga, from the 29 studied counties, where there is less energy poverty due is young population and heathier incomings.
The researcher warns for the fact that energy poverty has costs "not only from a social point of view, which is intangible and cannot be measured," but "also for the national health system since there are complications that need to be addressed ".
