The Researcher Dr. Elizabeth de Oliveira Marques from the Department of Chemistry FCT NOVA, was awarded with the Medal of Honor L'Oreal Portugal for Women in Science 2015.
The Project ''New Generation Quantum Dots Luminescent Biodegradable for Discovery of Biomarkers and Liberation of Drugs in Biological Samples’’, focus on the health field and aims to develop biodegradable luminescent nanoparticles serving as a vehicle in the controlled release of drugs (Doxorubicin and Camptothecin) in cancer cells and thus contribute to combating resistance to conventional chemotherapy.
An innovative design promoting the creation of a new generation of luminescent nanoparticles, biocompatible, non-toxic and biodegradable and its respective use in the discovery of novel biomarkers in cancer cells and the creation of standard drug delivery devices, effective for their treatment.
The Project may contribute to improving the quality of life of patients, given that covers the creation of a non-invasive treatment device (orally).
