Computer Science at NOVA is 1st Choice for Awarded Freshman

André Pontes e Raquel Macedo. winners of the Caloiros da NOVA Fellowship 2014, have chosen the  Computer Science Program at NOVA as their first option, and did not even considered applying to any other alternative CS program. 

Raquel Macedo says that “Computer Science and Informatics is a fascinating field, and its most visible face is the Internet. Informatics empower us with ways of addressing the some many problems and challenges that companies face currently. Some of these seem to be solved thanks to the occasional pinch of inspiration”. 

André Pontes is a passionate for Informatics since he was a young kid, and tells: “the principles and techniques I have learned till now are only natural. Computer Science and Informatics allow us to solve problems and develop software useful in all areas of society.

The Mestrado Integrado em Engenharia Infornática (MIEI) was the only program at Universidade Nova de Lisboa with two awarded students, who made it tied with a 18.67/20 GPA in the first year, passing all courses: “Introductory Programming”, “Digital Systems”, “Computer Architecture”, “Discrete Mathematics”, “Object-Oriented Programming”, “Mathematical Analysis I e II”, “Linear Algebra and Analytic Geometry” e “Soft Skills for Science and Technology”.

The «Caloiros da NOVA» Fellowship awards every year  the top freshman students among all Licenciaturas (BSc) and Integrated Masters (BSc+MSc) at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and was lauched with the goal of promoting the excellence of NOVA’s students.
