In collaboration with the STOA (Science and Technology Options Assessment) Panel and MEPs Paul Rübig (EPP - Parliamentary Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats)), Carlos Zorrinho (S & D - Parliamentary Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats European Parliament), José Inácio Faria (ALDE - Parliamentary Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe), Carlos Coelho (PPE) and Marisa Matias (GUE - Group of the Greens / European Free Alliance), the IUMRS (International Union of Materials Research Societies) announced the Second Global Leadership Service Award to honor individuals who have excelled in the areas of materials research, education and policy.
In 2016, the Award honors distinguished personalities for its distinguished leadership and service to the international community in the field of Advanced Materials for Energy and Transport, aligning with the internationalization of science and the convergence of fields in research and education.
Professor Rodrigo Martins, Chair of the IUMRS Awards Committee, closed the ceremony for the award of this Second Prize at a ceremony organized by IUMRS on 17 November at the European Parliament in Brussels and supported by the main Parliamentary Groups present in the European Parliament.
