The REP-ARISS team, association member belonging to ARISS-Europe, based in Lisbon, chose FCT-‑UNL as the location to accommodate this equipment which has been developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) in conjunction with the ARISS (Amateur Radio International Space station). Since 2001 a project has been developed with the objective to establish contacts with astronauts at the International Space Station. These contacts are aided by the collaboration of radio amateurs and aim knowledge exchange among school students of schools and ISS crews.
