Postdoctoral or Invited Scientist scholarship / QREN Project on Public Transportation Planning

One Postdoctoral ( BPD ) or Invited Scientist ( BCC ) scholarship is opened under the " Restrict to Plan " (34091) project of which is a partner the Faculty of Science and Technology, New University Lisbon (Centre for Artificial Intelligence ), financed by the European Regional Development Fund - FEDER , through COMPETE - Operational Programme for Competitiveness Factors (POFC) under the following conditions:

The purpose of this project is the development of a new planning tool for the passenger transportation sector, fully automated and which can integrate the information services, vehicles, and not least, the scheduling of staff, both at the planning stage and at the stage of risk management.

For this purpose the candidate will join the FCT team that will develop the module for planning and optimization of resources (vehicles and crews) that should meet the desired quality of service, exploring Constraint Programming techniques. In particular, the candidate should extend and adapt the (existing) Casper constraint solver tool to meet the application requirements.

The prospective candidate should be the holder of a PhD in Computer Science with expertise in the sub-area of Constraint Programming, namely the development and adaptation of constraint solvers.

The work will be developed in CENTRIA - Center for Artificial Intelligence , Faculty of Science and Technology, New University of Lisbon (Department of Informatics), under the scientific guidance of Professor Pedro Barahona .

The grant will have a duration of 12 months, and is due to start in May 2014. The grant contract may be renewed up to a maximum of 36 months.

The scholarship amounts to €1495 (BPD) or from €2060 to €2650 (BCC), the type of grant being awarded according to the profile of the candidate. The values above are according to the grants awarded directly by the FCT(http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) .

The candidate will be selected through curricular evaluation and an Interview (with a weight of 50% in each of the criteria).
