A new Ascomycete fungus genus, recently discovered by internationally renowned mycologists from The Netherlands and South Africa, has been named Alanphillipsia, to acknowledge the tremendous contribution that Dr Alan Phillips, researcher in CREM/DCV-FCT/UNL, has made to elucidate the taxonomy of members of the family the Botryosphaeriaceae”, which includes various plant pathogenic fungi. The genus and four included species was published in the latest issue of Persoonia vol 31, pages 196–203.
