Rodrigo Rodrigues, Associate Professor at Department of Informatics, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, was awarded an ERC Starting Grant to develop a five year top-notch research program in Cloud Computing.
The ERC project now approved, named DependableCloud, focus on the emergent technology of Cloud Computing. Cloud Computing is a new computing model that allows companies, organizations and individuals to transfer part of their information technology infrastructure
(software and hardware) to an external service provider, allowing these computations to be offered as services over the Internet, with huge technological and economical advantages.
Examples of cloud computing services range from hosting of powerful computing IT
resources, to user oriented services such as Facebook, Gmail, and Amazon. Due to the distributed nature of cloud computing systems, there are currently many issues that constrain their dependability and trustworthiness. Rodrigo's project will develop new principles and
technology to dramatically improve the dependability and reliability of future cloud computing systems.
