Industrial Engineering and Management has unique transversal characteristics, particularly in the combination of Engineering and Management skills, bringing together technical and communication abilities.

The Master’s program develops more specific competencies in Logistics, Production and Projects, Quality, Human Factors, Information Systems, Data, and Decision-Making, among others. Program

A hands-on approach is emphasized, anchored in solving real-world problems, simulated practice, and case studies. Whenever appropriate, laboratory resources and BYOD (bring your own device) strategies are prioritized. Teamwork is promoted across all course units, ensuring that technical knowledge is complemented by communication skills, particularly the ability to present and justify the technical aspects involved.

Curriculum

For whom

  • Holders of a bachelor's degree or legal equivalent in Industrial Engineering and Management, Engineering Sciences and Industrial Management, or related fields;
  • Holders of a bachelor's degree or legal equivalent in Engineering or Engineering Sciences in general, subject to curricular assessment and an interview to evaluate the candidate’s motivation and competencies;
  • Holders of a foreign higher education degree awarded by a signatory state following a first cycle of studies in those fields, in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process;
  • Holders of a foreign higher education degree in those fields, recognized by the NOVA FCT Scientific Council as meeting the objectives of a bachelor's degree;
  • Individuals with an academic, scientific, or professional background recognized by the NOVA FCT Scientific Council as demonstrating the ability to undertake this study cycle.

About the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering

The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DEMI) is a permanent organic unit of NOVA FCT, dedicated to teaching, fundamental and applied scientific research, and the provision of services in the fields of Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
