Master's Students in Environmental Engineering represent NOVA FCT/MARE at Conference in Romania

26-09-2024

The work of students from the “Sustainable Management of Coastal Zones” course, part of the Master’s in Environmental Engineering at NOVA FCT, was selected for the Young Professionals Coastal Community (YPCC2024). This initiative, organised by the Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC), brings together students, professors, technicians, and international experts to collaborate on the challenges faced by coastal communities.

The projects “Sustainable Management of Coastal Zones under Pressure - Costa da Caparica” and “Fonte da Telha Sustainable Management”, by students Luísa Jordão, Mariana Caimão, Maria Feitor, and Mariana Freitas, were selected for presentation in Romania, where this edition of YPCC2024 was held.

The students were tasked with assessing the impacts of the climate crisis on a coastal area under pressure and presenting an adaptation strategy to enhance the resilience of coastal communities.

The Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC), together with MARE – Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre (NOVA FCT), organised a competition to fund the presentation of the best work from 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 at YPCC2024. This year’s edition, under the theme "From Impacts of Global Change to Adaptive Responses", was part of the “European Coastal Challenge Summit – Littoral 24”, held in Romania from 22 to 28 September 2024.
