Emotional Well-being takes centre stage at NOVA FCT

26-09-2024

Mental Health and Wellbeing Week, organised by NOVA FCT through the Psychological Support and Vocational Counselling Office, will take place from the 7th to the 11th of October. This initiative aims to promote a series of activities to raise awareness within the academic community about the importance of emotional balance and self-care through a broad and diverse programme.

One of the highlights of the week will be a debate on Mental Health in Higher Education, featuring a representative from the Portuguese Psychologists Association. This discussion promises to enrich the conversation about the role of psychology professionals and the challenges faced by university students, reinforcing the commitment to promoting a healthy, stigma-free academic experience. The debate will also include contributions from experts such as the Coordinator of the Psychology Service at Instituto Piaget, members of the NOVA FCT Psychology Office, and a student representative, offering a comprehensive view on the topic.

Throughout the week, the diverse programme will feature mindfulness and yoga sessions, as well as cultural activities such as poetry readings, musical performances, and film screenings addressing emotional well-being. The week will conclude with a workshop on Psychological First Aid, an essential tool for managing unexpected crises.

This event will provide an opportunity to foster dialogue on mental health and highlight the importance of coordinated efforts by various professionals and specialists in building a healthier and more inclusive academic environment. The activities are free and open to the entire community, with some requiring prior registration. You can find out which ones in the Full Programme, available here.
