Telmo Santos, a Professor at FCT NOVA, took office on April 13th as the President of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DEMI) in a ceremony that also included the signing of 12 contracts with professors and researchers.
The Dean of FCT NOVA, José Júlio Alferes, said during the proceedings that he had no doubts, looking at the internal discussion process of the Department, in choosing Telmo Santos, who he considers "the right choice to lead the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering". "He is a young Professor, a full Professor for a relatively short time, with recognized work both inside and outside the Faculty. It will be a huge challenge that he is able to embrace, and I find him highly motivated for the role," he added.
Telmo Santos, the newly inducted President of DEMI, thanked for the trust to hold the position. "With the possible challenges that the future may hold, I will do my best for the university," he assured.
The new DEMI President succeeds António Grilo, following his appointment as President of the National Innovation Agency.
A total of 12 contracts were celebrated during the session, in categories of full, associate, and assistant Professors, and principal and assistant Researchers. Therefore, involving people who join the School and people who take on new roles.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering now has the new full Professors João Francisco Alves Martins, José António Barata de Oliveira, and Rui Miguel Henriques Dias Morgado Dinis. And as new associate Professors Rodolfo Alexandre Duarte Oliveira, Nuno Filipe Silva Veríssimo Paulino, Paulo Miguel de Araújo Borges Montezuma de Carvalho, Luís Augusto Bica Gomes de Oliveira, Maria Helena Silva Fino and Pedro Alexandre da Costa Sousa.
The Department of Materials Science now has Ana Cláudia Madeira Botas Gomes Pimentel as principal Researcher and the assistant researchers Ugur Deneb Yilmazer Menda and Ana Isabel Bento Rovisco.
